A Creative Blend of Anusara & Vinyasa Flow Yoga
When people call and ask what style we practice I end up tripping over words trying to decribe it. The best term I can think of is "free-style" yoga: It's a fun, creative blend of the best of various styles plus a bit of Pilates thrown in for good measure. Its dynamic, it's meditative, it's inspiring, and it's healthy. And within the dynamic, breath-filled movements are steps on the path toward stillness. And we could all use a little more of that.
We also practice as a spiritual discipline. Think of if as moving prayer and meditation. Remember a few years back the popular book entitled The Prayer of Jabez? It references 1 Chronicles 4:10: “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request." As a teacher of yoga and student of life, I encourage each of us to expand our territory. That doesn't mean adding more to our lists. It's just the opposite: it's the opportunity to clean our inner house, to rid ourselves of stuff we hang to that is not grounded in truth and serves no purpose but to hold us in place. So what "territory" was Ezra asking the Lord to increase? Not his grazing lands or flocks (modern day translation: bank accounts), he wanted his life to increase! A life full to the brim of the very presence of God Himself.
We all know the physical benefits of yoga. Even more beneficial is the time it gets us off the spin-cycle. We notice our territory increasing within the space between our thoughts, between each breath, between what we know and don't know. And in this new space we hear the unmistakable voice of the One who made us, who calls us by name and sings delight over us. He's enlarging our territory...and He wants us to be with Him there.
